Destination mini post #1-Minneriya National Park, Sri Lanka (15 seconds read)

Hello everyone!

This is the #1 in an ongoing series of mini-posts we have started.

Minneriya National Park,  located in Habarana, around 180 kms from Colombo, is one the main tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. Situated near the Minneriya reservoir, the park is the largest meeting place of Asian elephants in the world. The best season to visit is from May to October, when around 300 elephants may be seen together.

Apart from elephants, the park also boasts of various other animals like Leopards, Sloth Bear, Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild Buffalo, Wild Pigs among others.

A visit to Sri Lanka is incomplete without an evening safari in the park. Some pretty good accommodation options are available in Sigiriya nearby, like Saunter Paradise hotel.  Our cute little well-furnished and well-serviced cottage, the greenery outside the cottage, and the amazing poolside breakfast, left us wanting for more.

A visit to the Minneriya National Park can be clubbed with Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla Cave Temple & Golden Buddha Statue. Each of these places are also pretty amazing. We will soon be talking about them in future posts.

With busy schedules and hectic lifestyles we all are prone to, it becomes cumbersome to read big posts giving detailed holistic description of a place. In order to cut short the reading time, and maximize takeaway from our blog, we have started the mini-posts series- describing the essence of a particular destination in a few words.

Happy travels! 🙂
