Virupaksha Temple, situated on the banks of Tungabhadra River, in the centre of Hampi, is the main tourist attraction in Hampi. It is part of the group of monuments at Hampi, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This principal & oldest functioning temple (since 7th century AD) in Hampi is sought after by both tourists and pilgrims alike.  The yearly chariot festival held in the month of February attracts tourists from all over the world.
